Indian Overseas Bank ATM/Debit Card and Paypal

EDIT: Wait, no you can’t. It doesn’t works. You have to get one from any bank but IOB.

I was searching around to see if I could use this to verify Paypal before I actually got it. It turns out that you can. But before you use it to verify your account you have to first use it atleast once at an InstaCash ATM, so use it as soon as you get it, withdraw a couple of bucks, it won’t hurt.

And one more thing, when you walk into an IOB ATM, sometimes the slot for the ATM card won’t be clearly visible, so you may not notice it. It’s a thin slit near the part where the money comes out. I didn’t notice and spent like a couple of minutes just looking around :D

PS: Don’t forget to sign on the back of your card!

  1. You don’t need to sign at the back of your card. No one checks for it, ever.

  2. I think they do, they should anyway. Besides, not signing on the back is just asking for it. A friend of my mom’s lost lots of money that way.

  4. I’ve seen the latter before. But the former does sound like good advice. Good point.

  5. Can I use IOB debit card with VISA logo on it to verify my PayPal account? I tried doing it but it did not accept.

  6. Nope, you can’t. It doesn’t work.

If you have an account with any of the following banks you can withdraw straight into your account:
    SBI
    Bank of India
    Canara Bank
    Union Bank of India
    HDFC
    ICICI
    ING Vysya
    Axis
    Standard Chartered
    HSBC
    Citibank

Basically, any bank except for IOB will be fine.

  7. Thanks for the reply George.

If I link my bank account with PayPal, then is there even a remote possibility that they may debit my account without my prior permission or prove harmful in anyway? I have read many horror stories on paypalsucksdotcom.

I would also like to know if an Indian citizen can play online games for cash.

  8. While that hasn’t happened to anyone I know, I have heard of stories like those. Sorry, I really can’t help here.

Well, you can, but you have to play for long hours to farm the gold/equipment that other people really want for it to be worthwhile. It isn’t exactly restricted by country, even though it is against the terms of a couple of games.
